Go back and reread first what I actually wrote and then the most recent threads you have participated in – that this guy also did – and then tell me that no uncouth or unkind language was used in them by *anyone*.  In fact in many of the long threads you participate in (I rate you as a ‘barometer’ for these as it happens and just ignore them mostly) the stomping/flaming effect seems to come into play quite a bit. And no its not always you who uses the language :-) (just as I stated the first time) but I *do* think you have an affinity for those kinds of threads and don’t do a lot to extinguish flames <g> when they flicker or even if a spark flies nearby. And yes I have been guilty of the same upon occasion <g> but I *try* to be polite at it when I do though I’ve been known to slip badly on a poor day. As for progress – well on my part I’ve been mostly skipping those long threads where your login is prominent and its helped my tolerance level quite a bit <g>. Nancy

I did.   So now the hurdle is "uncouth" or "unkind," eh? This is an UNMODERATED newsgroup, Nancy, in case you forgot.  And if our worse posts contain nothing more than "uncouth" or "unkind" remarks, we should all get a freakin’ prize. This WHINER implied that he was called "names."   He wasn’t called ONE NAME that I can find.  Not ONE!  I checked Dejanews all the way back to hi first post! "So, enjoy the afterglow of shooting off an email in which you call a stranger: "a moron", "a jerk", "a hypocrite", "stupid", "petty", etc, etc." That’s what he said. Now perhaps *others* have passed these words around between each other, but so what?  This is an UNMODERATED newsgroup! Do you still not understand what UNMODERATED means? If "jerk" is the *worst* thing anyone around here calls someone, we’ll all likely get Knighted by the freakin’ Queen herself! > In fact in many of the long threads you participate in (I rate you as a >’barometer’ for these as it happens and just ignore them mostly)

It would be better, Nancy, if you just ignored them TOTALLY, because you seem to pop up in every one of these threads yourself, WHINING along with the rest. Jeff has an excuse.  He’s new.  He doesn’t understand how Usenet works.  He doesn’t understand what UNMODERATED means. He doesn’t understand that WHINING only begets more WHINING! But you have *no* excuse whatsoever. You’re *supposed* to know better. > the >stomping/flaming effect seems to come into play quite a bit.

That’s because this is an UNMODERATED newsgroup! Recently, it’s been going along rather nicely actually, until, that is, all the WHINERS arrived en masse. >And no its not always you who uses the language :-) (just as I stated the >first time) but I *do* think you have an affinity for those kinds of >threads and don’t do a lot to extinguish flames <g>

If that means that I don’t shy away from controversial topics, so what? In what manual does it say that Dogman must stay out of controversial threads? Is it found in the Nancy Holmes Better Homes and Gardens Big Red Book of Rules and Regulations?  What? You know where you can stick that book, eh? >when they flicker or even if a spark flies nearby.

And YOU are *always* there with your freakin’ BIC, aren’t you? You are to flames wars what matches are to gasoline. >And yes I have been guilty of the same upon >occasion <g> but I *try* to be polite at it

Yeah, right.   You are to polite what Mike Tyson is to first dates. >when I do though I’ve been known to slip badly on a poor day.

You sure do have a LOT of "poor days," Nancy. >As for progress – well on my part I’ve been mostly skipping those long >threads where your login is prominent and its helped my tolerance level >quite a bit <g>.

It would behove our "progress," then, Nancy, if you would TOTALLY IGNORE those threads, eh?   Because your version of "mostly" is becoming much too frequent. — Dogman About Hunting Retrievers http://www.i1.net/~dogman/fieldtrl.htm New! Nancy, here’s a clue:  GIBBERISH Look it up.   That’s what most of your posts look and sound like. Including *this* one. And it’s impossible to actually debate with anyone who speaks only in GIBBERISH. >If I wanted to have >Unmoderated is not a synonym for everyone should be as rude as possible >though you among several others seem to take it that way. >Think about it for a minute – if you find some of what I post to >occasionally be offensive and *I* am trying to be polite, what do you think >it would be like if I did NOT edit my responses? Here’s another clue: PARAGRAPH. Look the word up.   Then try to use one once in a while.  Please? I’m tired of trying to DECYPHER your GIBBERISH. If we’re ever in another war, perhaps the Holmes’ household would act as code-talkers, much like the Navajo Indians did for us during WWII? >My initial point was that you are a good marker for threads where people >are apt to end up flamed or ticked off or whatever you care to call it. Here’s your last clue: MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. That way, you see, there will be much less *wasted* bandwidth in r.p.d.b. >to prove the point, but it would probably be easier to pour >gasoline on my head.

Hi, Jeff. I am of the personal opinion that it’s not worth my time to look up old posts on DejaNews to prove points while engaged in defensive battles about who said what to who or who called names first. So I haven’t a clue what this is about, and really don’t care. All I can say is that if you want to stay around, then do. You can be whoever you want to be here. Or you can continue to be who you started out to be. If you’ll stop being defensive about the past and make a clean break from old posts, you can start fresh and have a good time. Watch which threads you get involved in. Stay away from vindictive folks, and make a positive contribution. You’ll get as good as you give here. And that can be a positive or a bummer experience. It’s up to you; I should know. I, too, got off to a poor start on this newsgroup a little over a year ago. I made a newbie mistake in my first post and was immediately dubbed a "troll" because my methods were controversial. I hadn’t been around long enough to realize the sheer amount of ignorance about dog behavior and training that gets displayed here on a regular basis. So I assumed that I would be taken at face value, and the merits of controversial *methods* debated. I did not know that *I* would be personally suspect, and my controversial methods would be viewed as abusive because they ARE routinely abused by idiots, which I was presumed to be. (Odds were…) The more defensive I got, the deeper the hole I was in seemed to get, until I felt quite the martyr, knowing as I did that *I* was in the right and didn’t deserve the abuse I was geting. Well, guess what? Lots of those folks I now count as my true friends, and others are long gone. And some I have found that I couldn’t care less what they think. But the bottom line is, I don’t flame or get flamed unless I *decide* to get into it around here. And I think I have garnered a wee bit of respect  in the last year because of it. Mostly, I stay out of off topic brawls, and hang out here for the comic value, to learn more about dogs and people and cultures, etc, and I try to help out when I feel I have something to contribute. Some folks just love to argue. And that’s their perogative. But remember – You get as good as you give on rpdb. It is my personal view that you add as much offensiveness to the world when you take offense as when you offend. Susan "Dusting off the old soapbox for a brief cameo" Fraser aka Chinchuba, ex-troll

It doesn’t surprise me, Joe, that you would regard it as such. But you see, I am not sticking up for him, per se.  One of my very favorite activities in the ng, apart from talking about dogs, is pointing out to people when they make palpably absurd statements, like that they searched for someone’s E-mail in Dejanews. When it happens to you, of course, it’s "whining".  And not just "whining", but "WHINING!!!" Tell you what, Joe.  You’re so handy with Dejanews … find me one example of a post I’ve made to this group which can properly be regarded as "whining".  Mind you, real whining, not just your narrow definition of whining as anything diverging from your opinion … jfs

To Jeff: Jeff, I checked all your recent posts, and here’s what I discovered: You just like to WHINE, don’t you? I didn’t find *any* posts where anyone ever called you any of the above names.  Not one. The closest would be Daisy calling one of your posts "hypocritical" because you were WHINING about so called off-topic posts by making OFF TOPIC POSTS. That is, you *were* being hypocritical. And WHINY. But she *helped* you anyway, didn’t she? So it’s obvious, Jeff, that you don’t know how Usenet works, especially its UNMODERATED newsgroups, which is what r.p.d.b is — UNMODERATED. You apparently can’t hack it in an open and free forum, Jeff, so I recommend that you seek the comfort and safety of a MODERATED mail list and that you seek it as soon as possible, because it will become *increasingly* more unpleasant for you here if you keep up the WHINING. That’s a GUARANTEE, Jeff. — Dogman About Hunting Retrievers http://www.i1.net/~dogman/fieldtrl.htm New!   I have posted to this group four times or so.  Only once, have I posted off topic, and that, at least, was relevant to the group.  At least I have not attempted to discuss the availability of food in Rwanda.  In return, I have pretty much been called every name I could hope to be called on the internet.  I especially enjoyed being told to shut up because one can post anything they want to this group.  Well, duh.    Since I got my dog, I have endeavored to explore every avenue of information to make her life better, etc.  Obviously, this avenue is a dead end.  My concern for my pet is greater than my need to trust the judgement of _certain_ people who can only boost their fragile egos by verbally assaulting others.  This group is perfect for them because in the real world,  whatever personal pathogens prevent them from engaging in social interaction, probably also contribute to their inability to win a debate.    So, enjoy the afterglow of shooting off an email in which you call a stranger: "a moron", "a jerk", "a hypocrite", "stupid", "petty", etc, etc.  And repeat to yourself: "This is as good as it gets", "This is as good as it gets"…. until the sadness of that statement sinks in.          Jeff
