Need help with digging dog!
Question:
If anyone has any suggestions for getting dogs to stop digging they would be most appreciated! I have a Greyhound and a Red Bone Hound that are destroying my yard by digging huge holes. They are house dogs and are not left outside for long periods of time.

Rather than beating your head against a wall trying to change behavior inherent to the animal you have, I’d recommend keeping your dogs on a surface they can’t dig. OR…you can limit their access in the yard to an area that is o.k. to dig up. — Elaine Gallegos

Maybe they’d like to dig in a sandbox. We have a sandy area in the driveway that Moon (see below, ahem) enjoys greatly. Jane Webb Mudpie and (ahem) Moonpie CEE GEE CEE (ahem)

I trained my dog not to dig by letting him in the yard and standing out of his sight, but where I could see him. Whenever he started to dig I jumped out and yelled "NO" or "Bad". It took a couple weeks, but he can now be left unsupervised and never digs. I also made sure he had toys to keep him occupied and fresh, cold water. (sometimes they dig a hole to lie in to keep cool). Hope this helps. Jean
