Help with unusual dog behavior
Question:
Severe trauma can be paralyzing, canine and human both. Gently work the dog, going as far as possible each time. If you’re not comfortable with this work with a qualified trainer. The problem is one of trust, and your friend hasn’t been able to communicate that trust to his animal. It’s not his failing, of course, its just not something most people can do intuitively. Good luck and don’t lose heart. My dog was brutally abused previously and I just worked her, every day, religiously. In a remarkably short time we developed a bond and she became a marvelous animal and friend. Jon
Response:
I am posting this message for a friend, please forgive me if I have made any mistakes! (JM) I need suggestions on how to deal with a Jack Russel Cross that has had a rough time. Here are the details: Dog: Jack Russell Cross Age: 4 years New owner has had the dog for 8 months, no children. History: Saved from the RSPCA Previous family: Dog was subjected to severe trauma from children The dog hides under a bed at any chance, frightened of quick movements. The new owner place a collar on the dog and it hid for the next 2 days. The dog will not walk on a lead and tends to lie on the ground and will not move. Toy and food simulants are not working. For now, the owner’s goal is to be able to walk his dog. After 8 months the dog now sits on his lap in the evening. Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with this animal?
