  Our almost two-year old lab has, in the last few months, suddenly become much more protective around us; barking at strangers with her hair standing on end, etc. She’s never come anywhere close to biting anyone, but she’s putting on much more of an aggressive show than she used to. My wife is eight months pregnant. Is it possible the dog knows she’s pregnant and is trying to protect her or is she becoming more territorial because she’s getting older? Thanks, Andy

Either of those explanations coould be correct. Or she could (unlikely) have a physical problem.  I would have her vision checked. What have you done about her behavior? Hello Andy, It’s probably a combination of both. If it’s because of the new baby, it may get worse when the new one comes aboard. The dog will probably be very interessted in raising the child. The way you address his aggressioon will either make it worse, or make it better. The way I see it is, you need to understand some of the basic principles of dog behavior, and non force methods of handling and training him.
